Studio Lighting Basics

Learn what it takes to create stunning studio lighting at a dynamic two-day hands-on superclass on September 17th and 18th. Join Master photographers Tony Corbell and Rob Hull as they set the foundation for mastering studio lighting.

You’ll start with the basics, where we define what lights can be used in a studio, and then move rapidly through the features and functions that are important to your photography. Throughout the weekend, you’ll build on the tools and techniques with hands-on live sessions with models.

September 17 & 18, 2022
Coppell TX (DFW Airport North)

Learn how to control the lights to provide the finest balance of the three critical elements of light quality and explore the different light modifiers available, including how and when to use each. You’ll master light from umbrellas, soft boxes, beauty dishes, and much more. Shoot high-key with a bright white background and no halo around your subject. Shoot low-key with compelling details in the shadows.

You’ll get hands-on experience setting the lights and photographing people and tabletop still life. So, bring your camera and your creativity.

Tony and Rob focus on getting it right in the camera, emphasizing the importance of control in the digital capture and how a few seconds of extra time spent at the time you capture the image can save hours in post-production.

Learn to sculpt light to make a perfect Rembrandt lighting pattern on your subject. Adjust the light a little more for loop lighting. Appreciate the beauty of a well-designed butterfly lighting pattern or the dynamic contrast afforded a well-done split light portrait. And then learn why you don’t need to worry about these time-honored patterns.

This workshop is sponsored by Arlington Camera and everyone who attends will receive a gift card for the next time you need to add something to your camera bag.
