Texas is home to some of the most beautiful wildflower displays anywhere on this planet.  And the Springtime brings our photographers far and wide to capture this display.  This page is intended to give you some help in finding resources to locate, identify and photograph Texas wildflowers.  If you know of a great resource that should be added please let me know.

These resources may be especially helpful this year considering the severe drought that has plagued the state.  Experts agree that this year may bring out a very unusual display of flowers.  With the severe drought you'll be seeing more displays of flowers that are adapted to dryer climates.  Assuming that we get some spring rain, look for Indian Blanket, Mexican Hat, Engelmann Daisy and Black-eyed Susans to bloom well.

Enjoy yourself on the Texas highways this Spring!

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

Texas Department of Transportation

This TxDOT site is a great resource for wildflower sightings but do remember that this only covers state roads.  County roads are not included here and as you may know many of the best spots are along the web of county roads.

Wildflowers in Bloom - Photo Index

This is a great web site to help you identify the flowers that you photograph.  It was created and maintained by Dan Lineberger and Jerry Parsons of the Horticulture Program at Texas A&M University.

Wildseed Farms

Wildseed Farms is the nation's largest working wildflower seed farm, where you can purchase wildflower seeds direct from the grower.  It's just 7 miles east of Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country.

Local Information

Many cities, counties and clubs sponsor special wildflower related events which may be of interest to you.  Below are some of the more notable.

Wildflower Haven

This is just what the name implies, a haven for wildflower hunters throughout Texas.  The web site has wildflower sighting information, maps, photos and much more.  Definitely a place you'll want to bookmark.
