Support for Elements 5 Version

Upgrade Notes

From a user’s viewpoint the basic operation of Photoshop Elements 6 is not that much different from version 5. One significant change, however, is in how you implement Styles and Effects. As in the change from version 4 to 5, Adobe once again changed the layout of the Effects palette. In version 6 this palette is now simply called Effects. (See illustration at left)

To work with the greeting cards you must select the Photo Effects group and then select Greeting Cards from the drop down menu.

  • Elements 6 Users Guide (PDF 807kb)
Greeting Card Designer for Elements 6 now includes a fully automated installation program making installation a snap.  Be sure to read the Users Guide for more details.

What's Changed

From a user’s viewpoint the basic operation of Photoshop Elements 5 is not that much different from version 4. One significant change, however,
is in how you implement Styles and Effects. In version 5 this palette is now called Artwork and Effects and includes a row of icons that groups
the various effects. (See illustration at left) To work with the greeting cards you must select the Special Effects group and then select Photo Effects in the Category Menu and Greeting Cards from the Library Menu.

Installation of the Greeting Card Designer files has also changed.

NOTE: Greeting Card Designer for Elements 4 is NOT compatible with Elements 5.  You must use files designed to work with Version 5.

When installing the program in version 5 you no longer need to delete any cache files. Adobe has designed version 5 to recreate the cache files every time you load the program. This makes the program more versatile and stable.

Also, the location of the files has moved from the Programs folder to the
Documents & Settings folders.

FAQ

Q. Why do I have to crop the image before I run the action? (Elements 4 only)
A.  By having you crop the image first, you maintain total creative control over where the image is cropped.  If this process were automated you would run the risk of cutting out important elements in your image.
Q. Why are the crop sizes so odd?
A.  The crop sizes are dependent upon the size of the card stock being used and the non-printable margin that is present on desktop inkjet printers.  The odd crop sizes maximize the image area without encroaching on the unprintable margin of the printer.
Q. Where do I put the Mask and Sample Image files?
A.  These files are optional and are not necessary to run Greeting Card Designer.  If you want to use these files you can put them in your My Pictures folder - or on the desktop.  To use one of the images simply open it in the Elements Editor.  To use one of the masks, refer to the section "Enhance Your Cards With Artistic Edges" in the User Guide for instrucitons.
