Only
two seats left in this very popular workshop.
Yes, that's right! There are only two seats left in this very popular
workshop so if you're thinking about taking a workshop then now is the time to
sign up.
Olympic
National Park is a photographers dream, encompassing over 1,400 square miles.
We'll photograph from the rugged shores of the Pacific Ocean to the top of
Hurricane Ridge and three distinct eco systems in between.
Hurricane Ridge (left) On a clear day you'll have spectacular views of the
Olympic Mountains and Canada's
Vancouver
Island. Mt. Olympus is home to 7 of the parks 60 major glaciers. Blue Glacier
receives as much as 500 inches of snow a year and flows downhill as much as 5
inches a day.
This is a great place to have a spouse or family join you after the workshop.
Or even during the workshop if they can put up with a bunch of photographers
waiting around for the perfect light.

Are you enrolled in Texas School next week. If so, let's meet at the big
Pizza Bash on Sunday afternoon. It would be great to get a
GreatPhotography group together. If I miss you there, I'll be wrangling
with Don Emmerich. Stop by and say hello.

I only have two more classes this semester. Next week I start the
Photoshop CS2: Class 2 - Essentials for Photographers class and on May 19 I'll
have my popular Studio Lighting Basics Class.
There is still room in both sessions though the Studio Lighting class is getting
close to full.
After these two classes, I'll be taking a break for the summer. The full
schedule of classes will begin again in the Fall. I'm working on the fall
schedule and should have it in the June issue of this newsletter.
I have many people in my classes and workshops that want to use photography as a
full or part time business. One of the challenges for any new business is
finding a bank or service that will provide you with REASONALBLE merchant
account services, allowing you to accept credit cards.
I have been using Innovative Merchant Solutions for some time now and their
service has been reliable and reasonable for a small business. Currently they
have a referral program that includes no set-up fees, no application fee and no
service fee for two months. So, if you'd like to accept credit cards you
may want to consider Innovative Merchant Solutions.
To take advantage of the referral program...
-
Call Innovative at 1-866-825-9700
-
Give them my name and business name and phone
number: (Robert Hull, GreatPhotography, 972-462-7314.
When working on an image you may want to make a copy of the area that you are
working on so you don't damage the original image. I do this when I'm
retouching eyes in a portrait. You can quickly copy just a small part of
the image layer to a new layer using the Layer menu or shortcut keys.
- Make a selection.
- Do one of the following:
- Choose Layer > New > Layer Via Copy to copy the
selection into a new layer. (or just Ctrl J)
- Choose Layer > New > Layer Via Cut to cut the
selection and paste it into a new layer. (or just Shift+Ctrl+J)
There are several standard techniques that will help you
with your editing in Adobe Photoshop.
v
Backup your original image file before opening it
to work in Photoshop.
v
When you open a JPG file in Photoshop, be sure to
save the work as a Photoshop PSD file.
v
Before flattening your file be sure to create a
“Final Edit” copy in PSD format.
v
Always work on an uncropped version of the image.
Only crop when you’re ready to create a specific output size.
v
Never lower the Pixel Dimensions or resolution of
your image until you’re ready to create an image file for a specific output
device.
